Overview

The Dalby Dash 10K takes runners through the heart of Dalby Forest in North Yorkshire, starting at Low Dalby Visitors Centre with a steady two-mile climb on a private tarmac road along House Dale. The route levels off at the top of the hill, where the first runners to summit take the King and Queen of the Hill prize, then shifts onto uneven compacted stone trail. A fast and furious descent follows through Sand Dale and Heck Dale before a right turn along Dalby Beck brings runners down the trail to the finish back at Low Dalby. It is a race with a reason, run in support of Yorkshire charities, with first aid provided by Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue and a sweep vehicle following the last runner.

The first two miles are a steady uphill climb on a private tarmac road along House Dale. Once the track levels off at the top of the hill the surface becomes an uneven compacted stone trail.

Route

From Low Dalby Visitors Centre the route heads up House Dale on a private tarmac road for roughly two miles of steady climbing. At the top of the hill the track levels off and turns right, continuing as uneven compacted stone trail. The route then turns right again and begins a fast, furious descent down Sand Dale and Heck Dale. At the bottom a right turn takes runners along Dalby Beck and down the trail back to Low Dalby and the finish.

Getting There

By car: from the north, drive down the A169 to the fork in the road at the Fox and Rabbit pub, turn left and drive for 2 miles, then turn left at the sign to Dalby Forest and drive to the toll booth. From the south, drive up the A169 to Pickering, over the roundabout and continue for 3 miles to the Fox and Rabbit pub, turn right, drive 2 miles and turn left at the sign to Dalby Forest. From the east or west, drive down the A170 into Pickering and turn left (from the west) or right (from the east) at the roundabout, then follow the directions from the south. Race Day

Race day is Sunday 8 November 2026. The 10K starts at 11:02am from Low Dalby Visitors Centre. Parking fills up, so arrive early. The Tree Tops café is open throughout the day, and prizes are presented at the visitors centre at 12:30pm.

Parking · FreeAmple parking is available at the visitors centre, although some of it is up to one mile from the start. Please arrive early and obey the marshal's instructions. Free entry into the forest for runners and supporters; give the ranger your name at the toll booth and continue down the road until directed by a race marshal.

ToiletsThere are plenty of toilets at the visitors centre and at the rangers hut opposite the mountain bike hut. There are no showers, so please arrive ready to run.

First aid on courseFirst aid is provided by Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue, and the Race Director is also a first aider. A sweep vehicle follows the last runner. Make a marshal aware if you need help.
