Clwb Rhedeg Pontardawe Running Club host their annual Christmas 5K fun run on countryside paths around the town of Pontardawe. The course begins on the Alloy Industrial Estate but quickly moves off-road to a park, then a riverside path past the Riverside Centre, turning left onto the canal towpath and back towards the town centre. Runners cross Herbert Street, continue along the canal through the underpass and past shops, the leisure centre and school on a paved off-road path, meet the canal again at the edge of Trebanos and turn left to follow the River Tawe to the finish at The Pontardawe Inn (Y Gwachel). Numbers are collected at the pub from 09:45 to 10:45, a warm up is held at 10:45 and the run starts at 11:00. Runners are encouraged to take part in fancy dress, finishers receive a commemorative medal and a bottle of water, and everyone is invited into the pub afterwards for prize giving, mulled wine and mince pies.
