The Charger Pump & Run 5K is held on the University of Alabama in Huntsville campus on Homecoming weekend and is open to students, alumni, friends, family and the wider local running community. The race covers a USATF certified 5K course that starts and finishes at the University Fitness Center on John Wright Drive. Before the 9:00 AM start, entrants can take part in a bench-press pump contest during race day registration and packet pickup, where each successful rep removes five seconds from their finish time, with women lifting 55 lbs and men lifting 135 lbs. Snacks, water and refreshments are served at the University Fitness Center, and awards are presented afterwards at UAH Fraternity Sorority Row.

The event is open to everyone: UAH students, alumni, friends, family and the wider local running community. It is run as part of University of Alabama in Huntsville Homecoming weekend.
During race day registration and packet pickup, participants can complete bench press reps. Women use a 55 lb weight and men use a 135 lb weight, and each successful rep deducts five seconds from the 5K finish time. You keep going until you fail or re-rack the bar.

Pickup runs on Wednesday 24 and Thursday 25 February 2027 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the University Fitness Center, on Friday 26 February 2027 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Fleet Feet in Jones Valley, and on race morning, Saturday 27 February 2027, from 7:45 AM to 8:45 AM at the University Fitness Center.
