The race takes place on an officially measured 5 km route at The Sheepmount in Carlisle and opens with a loop of Bitts Park before heading past Carlisle Castle, where runners complete two laps. The ground underfoot mixes park paths, pavements and quiet roads, and the profile is mainly flat. The route finishes near the small grandstand at Sheepmount Stadium.
