The Castellabienne is a 10 km loop staged from the village of Château-l'Abbaye in the Nord, inside the Scarpe-Escaut regional natural park. About 2.5 km of the route runs on tarmac while the remaining 7.5 km follows paths and tracks between the Scarpe and the Escaut. The programme also lists a night or semi-night race, and the organisers point to the scenery as one of the day's highlights. Other questions
The date for the 2026 edition has not been announced on the event listing yet. The most recent edition was held on 6 July 2024, so check the official event site for the confirmed date.
It is a 10 km loop, with around 2.5 km on tarmac and 7.5 km on paths running between the Scarpe and the Escaut inside the Scarpe-Escaut regional natural park.
The programme lists a nocturnal or semi-nocturnal race, so part or all of the running happens after dusk. Check with the organisers what lighting they require from runners.
Mostly soft paths and tracks through the natural park, with roughly a quarter of the distance on tarmac roads. Trail shoes are a sensible choice for the path sections.
The listing does not detail aid stations. A participant review of an earlier edition mentions beer at the finish and a bottle of wine for each runner, so it is worth asking the organisers what to expect.
