The 5 kilometre option is the natural first race for newcomers, while the 10 kilometre suits runners who can already cover the distance comfortably in training. The courses are run on city streets in San Sebastián, so the footing is straightforward and the main thing to prepare for is the volume of other runners around you.

March on the Basque coast is mild but changeable, with a real chance of rain and gusty wind off the sea. Temperatures are usually comfortable for running, so a light layer you can discard and a cap or rain jacket for the wait before the start are worth packing.

City-centre races in San Sebastián are easy to watch, and spectators can usually see runners more than once by moving a short distance between streets. Ask the organiser which sections of the course are open to the public on the day, as some roads may be fenced off.
