The Carlisle City Urban Trail Race sends runners along a measured route that mixes paved city streets with well established off-road tracks. The course begins on St Marys Gate close to Carlisle Cathedral and takes in the Millennium Bridge, Carlisle Castle, Bitts Park and Rickerby Park before finishing near lamp post number 6 behind the Sands Centre. Race numbers and timing chips are collected at registration in the Sands Centre on race day, a briefing is held before the start, and live results are normally online about ten minutes after the runners set off. The event runs under UKA rules with a field limited to 300 entrants aged 15 and over, and prizes go to the top three men and women overall as well as to age group placings.
