The London Winter Run takes over closed roads in the heart of the capital for a 10K that starts at Trafalgar Square and finishes on Whitehall. The course is flat and traffic free, passing world-famous landmarks and instantly recognisable venues, and it is run in waves with music and entertainment to keep the winter mood up. Thousands of runners of all abilities take part, many in fancy dress, and everyone who finishes collects the iconic winter medal along with chip-timed results, an iTAB and a race photo. Entries and fundraising go towards Cancer Research UK's work to beat cancer, and runners can keep collecting donations for the charity up to a month after the event.
