Now in its 18th year, the Buffalo Stampede sends runners out from the Brazos Center on the edge of Bryan, Texas, onto a gently rolling course that winds through open country and past neighbourhoods and parks before a downhill finish. Athletes choose between a chip-timed 5K on a USATF certified course and a one mile fun run, both timed with disposable bib tags and both finishing with a medal. The morning brings a water stop, running music, two cheer stations, a celebrity starter and the resident bison mascot, with buffalo sculpture trophies waiting for the overall winners. Once the awards are done at 9am, runners and their families are invited to stay for Boonville Days, a free heritage festival held inside and outside the museum.
