Bridgedale Coast 2 Coast - Mourne Marathon - Marathon 42k

You will start in Rostrevor and finish in Donard Park, Newcastle, after 26.2 miles across the Mournes. Expect a kit check and race briefing before the start. The route follows the Mourne Way through forest trails, open mountain tracks and remote valleys, climbs the Trassey Track, summits Slieve Donard and descends to Newcastle. Because it is point-to-point, check the event’s transport plan to get to the start or back from the finish.

This is a key consideration for a point-to-point race. The organiser may run buses from Newcastle to the start in Rostrevor before the race, or from the finish back to the start afterwards. This is TBC. If no official transport is provided, you will need to arrange a lift, taxi, or use public transport. Parking in Newcastle and Rostrevor is limited, so carpooling or staying locally is recommended.

Aggressive trail running shoes with good grip are essential for forest trails, open mountain tracks, boggy sections, and the rocky descent from Slieve Donard. Dress in layers, with a breathable base layer, insulating mid-layer, and waterproof outer shell. Trekking poles can help on the Trassey Track climb and the long descent, but check they are allowed.

Stop at the nearest checkpoint or marshal and report your situation. If you cannot move, call the emergency number printed on your race bib or 999/112 and give your exact location, race number, and condition. Organisers will coordinate with mountain rescue. Do not continue if you are injured or hypothermic. Sweep runners will also be on the course.
