Overview

Blubberhouses Moor is a 23-plus mile challenge walk and run across the moorland and reservoir country west of Harrogate. Starting and finishing at Bland Hill, the route links Swinsty, Fewston and Thruscross reservoirs with Rocking Hall, Bolton Abbey, Beamsley Beacon, Round Hill, Ellarcarr Pike and Timble. The ground underfoot mixes moorland tracks, forestry paths, farmland and short stretches of quiet lane, with checkpoints along the way and refreshments at Thruscross and Ling Farm. Walkers and runners share the same course and the same 9.5 hour window, with a firm 13:45 cut-off at CP6 and the finish closing at 18:00; entry includes a certificate, a badge and a hot meal with a vegetarian option at the end.

Terrain

Open moorland, reservoir-side paths, forestry tracks, farmland and some quiet lanes in the Washburne and Wharfedale area, with rough ground, stiles, gates and exposed sections around Beamsley Beacon and Round Hill.

Route

Start at Bland Hill (GR 207 531) before heading via CP1 (GR 194 528) to Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs. The route continues to CP2 at Thruscross Reservoir (GR 155 574, refreshments), then CP3 at Rocking Hall (GR 111 579) and CP4, a self-clip gate (GR 076 542). It passes CP5 at Banks Farm, Storiths (GR 081 543) near Bolton Abbey, then CP6 at Ling Chapel Farm (GR 091 527, refreshments, cut-off 13:45). From there it climbs via Beamsley Beacon (GR 099 524) and Round Hill to CP7 at Ellarcarr Pike (GR 159 523) before returning through Timble to the finish at Bland Hill (GR 207 531), which closes at 18:00.

No specific public transport arrangements are published; Bland Hill sits on the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton and is most easily reached by car.

Race Day

Registration opens at 07:15 at Norwood Community Hall, Bland Hill, with the mass start at 08:30. Entrants must visit all checkpoints in order and clear CP6 before 13:45; the finish closes at 18:00, where a hot meal with a vegetarian option is served.

DogsNo. Dogs are not allowed on the event at all.

Time limitThere is a cut-off at 13:45 at CP6, Ling Chapel Farm. Anyone not departing CP6 before that time is retired from the event, and accepting this cut-off is a condition of entry. The finish closes at 18:00.
