Overview

BigSea Trails (WATER) is the second event in the BigFeat Events Classic Element Trail Series, a quartet of races inspired by earth, water, fire and air. Every distance starts and finishes on the sands of Knoll Beach at Studland on the Isle of Purbeck in Dorset, then follows a single loop over hilly coastal trail. Runners pass the Purbeck Hills, Corfe Castle, Kimmeridge Bay, Chapman's Pool, Dancing Ledge, Durlston Castle and Old Harry Rocks before the return to the beach. Four distances are offered: a 54km ultra, an 18 mile challenge, a new marathon and a half marathon, and all four set off at 09:00. The day is fully supported with drink and nutrition stations, medical assistance, bag drop, toilets and a finisher medal, and photos are taken out on the course.

Terrain

Single-loop coastal trail over hilly ground on the Isle of Purbeck, mixing beach, clifftop paths and rural tracks with sea views throughout.

Route

Starts and finishes on the sands at Knoll Beach in Studland. The loop heads inland over the Purbeck Hills and past Corfe Castle, then follows the coast by Kimmeridge Bay, Chapman's Pool, Dancing Ledge and Durlston Castle before returning along the cliffs past Old Harry Rocks to the beach finish.

Race Day

Registration and race pack collection opens at 08:00 and closes at 08:45 for all four distances, and the races start at 09:00 from Knoll Beach. A final information email is sent at least a week before the event.

ParkingThe start and finish are at Knoll Beach Parking (National Trust), Ferry Rd, Swanage BH19 3AQ, so runners can park at the venue.

First aid on courseYes. Medical assistance is provided on the course and there is a bag drop at the event, along with toilets at the venue.

Aid stationsYou will be able to refill your water or fluid carrier at the aid stations. If you wish to enjoy coke, which is not served in your fluid carrier, you will need to bring a cup. There are no cups at the aid stations, but cups are available to purchase for about £4, usually near registration at the start.

RefundsIn the rare and unfortunate situation of an event being cancelled prior to the start due to Force Majeure, there will be the option of a transfer to the rescheduled race, transfer to the same race next year or transfer to another equivalently priced race. Entry fees cannot be refunded. Transfers to the same event will be permitted free of charge up to 3 days before the event. Deferments to the same race next year will be possible if you can no longer participate. The deadline for deferments is 7 days prior to race date.

Minimum ageYes. The Half Marathon is open to runners aged 17 and over. The 18 Mile, Marathon and 54k Ultra are open to runners aged 18 and over.

DogsDogs are not permitted. The courses are on rural trails, often single track, and across land with farm animals, so it is not possible to safely allow dogs to participate or to adhere to the land owners' conditions.
