Le Trail des 3 Châteaux links three towns in the hills around Le Creusot, sending runners along point to point routes that all finish in the town. The 61 km Grande Traversée leaves Autun at 10:30 with 2,300 m of climbing, the 28 km Traversée starts in Broye in the afternoon and the 15 km Petite Traversée sets off from Marmagne in the early evening. Ground underfoot is Burgundy trail country, forest tracks and paths with road sections between the villages. The day is run by around a hundred volunteers from Entente Athlétique Le Creusot, who keep the atmosphere friendly from the first start to the last finisher.
