The Arc 50K follows the South West Coast Path from Harlyn Bay to Perranporth Airfield across 49.4 km of Cornwall's Atlantic coastline, climbing 1,458 m along the way. Runners round the Trevose headland and head south through coves, sand dunes and exposed clifftops, with the terrain at times difficult, steep and arduous. The race starts at 09:00 and a maximum of nine hours is allowed, so depending on pace the later sections are run in the dark. Three aid stations at regular intervals offer basic food and drink, warm shelter and toilet facilities, and no personal support crew is permitted at any point on the route. Runners are expected to be self-sufficient in potentially challenging winter weather, and previous trail running and night running experience is recommended.
