The course follows the Mariner's Trail on the Llŷn Peninsula. Expect rugged coastal trail with a total climb of about 1540m, so it suits runners with solid trail experience and good hill fitness.
The event is the 8th Coast 2 Coast Winter Ultra. It was formerly known as the Pen Llŷn Ultra Winter Edition, and past results show editions in 2018, 2019 and 2022, so it has a long-running history on the peninsula.
Historical records list 267 finishers over the years, made up of 187 men and 80 women. Previous winners include Jon Shield, Zoe Murphy, Gwyn Owen, Huw Jack Brassington and Elizabeth Richardson.
Build up long runs on hilly ground, practise running and walking the climbs, and include back-to-back long days if you can. Train with the kit you plan to use on race day so you know it works over several hours.
