The Ayabe Suigen no Sato Trail Run starts and finishes at a special race village beside Ayabe Onsen at the Niou no Mori campsite, deep in the forested hills of Ayabe City in northern Kyoto Prefecture. Two races run through that landscape, a 50 km ultra with an 11 hour limit and a 16.7 km race with a 5 hour limit, both with checkpoint cut-offs along the way. Terrain is natural trail through rich woodland with clear, clean river sections, and the aid stations are stocked with local speciality foods from the surrounding area. Because the hot spring baths sit right next to the venue, finishers can soak after they cross the line. Race day reception is held on the morning only, with an equipment and health checklist submitted on arrival.
