The Sagamihara Gantan Marathon kicks off the new year with a run on New Year's Day, starting and finishing at Sagamihara Gion Stadium. Four divisions run on the same morning: a 5km race, a 3km race, a 1.5km race for primary school children, and a 1.5km family division in which up to three members of one family finish together. Participants choose a pace that suits them, and the day is designed to help build a healthy year of fitness. Chip timing and a finisher certificate are provided, and the organiser arranges sports injury insurance for participants.
