A two-person relay follows the same route, with a first leg of about 19 km and a second of about 23 km, and teams may be mixed. Entry runs from 00:00 on 1 October 2026 to 23:59 on 20 December 2026. Places are allocated on a first-come basis, so the entry closes early once the field is full.
There are two divisions. The registered division is for athletes registered with the Japan Association of Athletics Federations for the 2026 season, and the general division is for everyone else, including unregistered runners. Registration details, including your JAAF ID, must be saved in your RUNNET My Page before you apply. Anyone still marked as pending must update their details by the deadline or be moved to the general division.
Every entrant receives a participation uniform, and finishers receive a Tanba-yaki ceramic medal. No certificate is handed out on the day, but a free finisher certificate featuring your photograph can be created online after the race.
The town is known for the Sasayama castle ruins and its old castle town streets, the History Museum, the Taisho Roman Hall, the Sue no Sato pottery village and the Konda Yakushi Onsen hot spring. Local specialities include Tanba-yaki pottery, black soybeans, wild boar hot pot, mountain yam and Tanba chestnuts.
