The Gunma Safari Tomioka Marathon is a city road race staged in Tomioka, the Gunma silk town, with every distance starting and finishing on the ground of Tomioka City Takase Elementary School. Entrants choose between a half marathon, 10km, 5km and 3km, and there is also a 3km pair race in which a child of elementary school age or younger runs alongside a parent or guardian. The half marathon is the only distance with a cut-off, set at two and a half hours with a checkpoint at 15.7km that must be passed within 1 hour 45 minutes. Food and drink booths are set up around the venue, and each participant receives a hospitality ticket worth 500 yen to spend there, plus local produce, admission tickets for Gunma Safari Park and the Tomioka Silk Mill, and a towel. Race packs are posted out roughly two weeks before the event, so there is no athlete reception to queue for on the morning.

Other questions
This page covers the half marathon, 10km and 5km. Junior high school pupils entering the 3km apply through a separate page, and the fee for that entry is half price at 120 yen per person.
Yes. Tomioka residents aged 18 or over, excluding high school students, pay 3,000 yen for the 5km instead of the standard 4,500 yen. Enter through the race listing marked for Tomioka residents, and note that any friends you enter with must also be Tomioka residents. Entries from people who do not qualify will be voided.
Please make the entry in the name of the parent or guardian who will be running, since that is the person the pair entry is registered under.
The venue has food and drink booths, a merchandise stall and a massage booth, so supporters have plenty to do while waiting. There is no separate spectator transport service listed, and athletes cannot leave valuables in the baggage area.
