Other questions
It is an ultramarathon foot journey that travels around the Izu Peninsula, a UNESCO Global Geopark in Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. The course is built around the history and nature of the peninsula and follows the footsteps of Miura Anjin, the English navigator William Adams, with long stretches of sea, mountain and sky views.
Three-year averages for October in Ito show highs of about 22.6°C and lows of around 16.2°C, with roughly seven hours of sunshine a day and about 7.4 mm of monthly rainfall. Humidity is high at around 81% and the wind is usually light, so conditions are generally mild but can feel warm on exposed coastal stretches.
The course follows the Izu Peninsula and its coastal and inland roads. Course marking details, maps and any navigation guidance are published by the organiser on the official event website before race day.
Because it is a long foot journey with sections away from towns, runners should plan to carry water, food, a phone, a lightweight waterproof layer and any personal medication they need. The organiser publishes the official mandatory and recommended kit list on the event website, and it should be checked before the race.
The Izu Peninsula combines coastline with a mountainous interior, so both routes include repeated climbing. Elevation profiles and gain figures are published by the organiser, and runners should train on undulating terrain rather than flat roads alone.
