The Fujikawa Kiwi Marathon starts and finishes at the Fujikawa Gymnasium in Fuji City, Shizuoka, sending runners out along a course that follows the beautiful natural scenery of the Fuji River. Seven categories make up the day, from 20km and 10km road races down to 5km, three 3km events and a 1km parent-and-child run, so school children and families line up alongside club runners. Everyone who finishes takes home locally grown kiwi fruit and a towel, with a T-shirt as well in every distance except the 1km, and the ninth-place finisher in each category wins a special kiwi prize. Race numbers and timing chips are posted out in early November, which means there is no registration desk to visit on the morning itself.
