Runners follow the promenade beside the Shinkawa, the waterway that gives Yachiyo City its character, on a course that stays close to the river and its greenery. The 10 mile, 10km and 5km races set off from in front of Yachiyo City Civic Hall and finish at Yachiyo City General Ground, while the 2.5km and 1.3km races take place around the sports park. There is no registration desk on the day, so participants go straight to their start point and gather before their race begins. After finishing, runners are offered drinks and a tonjiru pork soup service made in the Gen'emon-nabe, a pot two metres across. A sports towel is given as the participation prize and a record certificate is issued to finishers.
