The Kibiji Marathon traces a historic corridor through the Kibiji district of Soja City in Okayama Prefecture, passing the five-storey pagoda of Bicchu Kokubun-ji, the only such tower in the prefecture, along with Kinojo castle ruins, Iyama Hofuku-ji temple and the Tsukiyama and Tsukuriyama burial mounds. Seven distances run on the same day, from a full marathon down to an 800m universal run, and the half marathon and 10km are measured over Japan Association of Athletics Federations certified courses. Aid stations along the longer routes serve local dishes made with city shops and specialities such as red rice, celery and peaches, while finishers in the full marathon, half marathon and 10km are greeted with free sweet azuki bean soup. The day also brings a food market area for the shorter races, a local produce shop, a photo contest and a runner care service.
