Most runners reach Yan'an first, by high-speed rail or by air into Yan'an Nanniwan Airport, and then continue by road to Ganquan County. Local bus and taxi services cover the final stretch. Allow extra time in case of transfers, and confirm the exact start location once the organisers publish it.

The climbing is moderate rather than severe, spread across the route instead of concentrated in one climb. The main demands are time on feet and the uneven ground underfoot. Runners who can comfortably cover 20 to 25 km on trails, or a similar distance on road with some hill work, should manage the course inside the time limit.

Ganquan County sits on the Loess Plateau, where early November days are usually cool and dry with cold mornings, and there is a real chance of wind or a sharp temperature drop at altitude. Layering is the practical approach, and a packable jacket is worth carrying even if the morning looks clear.
