Terrain
The route leaves Cargilfield School in Barnton and heads out through the Dalmeny Estate and South Queensferry before crossing the Forth Road Bridge and turning back toward Barnton. Roughly 75% of the ground underfoot is tarmac and the rest is runnable estate road, rolling through about 1,150 ft (350 m) of undulation with no big hills in sight. The whole course is marked and marshalled, with water and first aid at miles 5.5 (9.5 km) and 14.5 (23 km), and chip timing, a finisher's medal and post-race fuel come as part of the entry. Wave starts group runners by target finish time so everybody sets off among people running a similar pace, and the day raises funds for The MS Society Scotland.

Other questions
Runners are placed into waves based on their target finish time, which groups people of similar pace together and eases congestion on the course.
Roughly 75% of the route is tarmac and about 25% is runnable estate road, so road shoes work well for most runners.
There is approximately 1,150 ft (350 m) of total undulation across the 20 miles, with no big hills according to the organisers.
No. The organisers note that there are no road closures in place, so runners share the roads with traffic and should take normal care.
