The Yazu Town Marathon is a community road race held each October in the small town of Yazu in eastern Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Runners pick from 10K, 5K, 3K and 2K courses that thread through the town, with a family division that costs nothing to enter. The race is named after Yazu native Koichi Morishita, the marathon silver medalist at the Barcelona Olympics, who ran these same roads as an elementary and junior high school pupil, and Mexico Olympics silver medalist Kenji Kimihara is expected to take part. Entry costs ¥2,500 for adults and ¥1,000 for elementary, junior high and senior high school students. The day is a relaxed, local affair built around the town hall, with mild autumn weather, roughly 7 hours of sunshine and only light rainfall typical for the month.
