Runners circle a flat, paved loop in Toyosu Gururi Park, a spit of land that pushes out into Tokyo Bay so that water is in view on almost every side. Because the course is lapped, competitors pass the start and finish area again and again, and a monitor is planned to show how many laps remain, with anyone still out after the time limit unable to begin another lap. The programme takes in a half marathon, a 21 km relay for teams of three to eight, 10 km and 5 km races, a 2.5 km mini marathon and parent and child pair race, and a 400 m challenge run for pre-schoolers. Planned extras on the day include pace runners, a sports shop, a guest MC, and onion soup served after the finish.
