The Mimatan Kirishima Panorama Marathon is held in Mimata Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, starting and finishing at the Mimata Town Cultural Hall. Runners head out on paved roads with wide views of the Kirishima mountain range, the first area in Japan to be designated a national park, while local residents line the course with cheering and hospitality. The half marathon runs under a three hour limit with cut-off points at 7.4km and 16.4km, and shorter 2km, 3km and 5km races welcome primary school children, families and adults. There is no race-day registration: number cards, timing chips, participation gifts and programmes are mailed to entrants by mid January. A morning market and photo contest run at the venue, and first aid and a town health room are open on the day.
